Teachers can’t escape the growing trend of technology in the classroom.  It’s more than just hype.  More schools are buying tablets for use in the classroom, with Apple’s tablet sales to the education sector doubling last year.

As a mobile software company whose product is used extensively in education, we dream big about the future of technology in the classroom.  We have worked with numerous great teachers who have successfully leveraged tablets to improve the learning experience for students.

Are you tempted to join the trend?  Here are ten tips for introducing tablets into your classroom.

1. Strive For A Mobile-Friendly Curriculum

Ensure curriculum is tablet-friendly. Review your syllabus for the coming semester and identify interactive projects that are a natural fit for an iPad. Conversely, pick a few subjects that are in need of a shake-up, having failed to come alive in a traditional classroom setting. Also, format materials to be easily viewed and used on a tablet. PDFs and Word files work the best for sharing and annotation.

13 Reasons To Use Educational Technology In Lessons

Sometimes you need to convince colleagues to think about using educational technology in their lessons, or to identify where in their scheme of work they could incorporate it.

This list is a starting point: you may find one or two points that would "resonate" with your co-worker, and grab his or her attention.

1. Where information and communications technology (ICT) is taught well, it has been shown to enhance pupils’ levels of understanding and attainment in other subjects. That’s because “real” ICT is more about thinking skills than about mastering particular software applications.
2. ICT can provide both the resources and the pedagogical framework for enabling pupils to become effective independent learners. For example, computer programs are available that adjust themselves to the pupils’ level and then set appropriate tasks and give feedback on performance. Used wisely, these can help pupils to move on.

iPad or iFad?

In 2002 I was so enthused by the idea that a school could provide one laptop for every child in its school that I launched a major research programme to study one of the first schools in the UK to achieve that goal for each of its 41 Year 6 pupils. We placed a research assistant in a classroom for several hours each week at Broadclyst Community Primary School, near Exeter in Devon, to observe and record what happened. The results were later published in theJournal of Computer Assisted Learning, and the 1:1 ratio certainly made a difference to learning engagement, but not necessarily to learning gain. Our major findings were that the 1:1 ratio of laptop provision encouraged greater creativity from the children, and improved their engagement.

O Catálogo BloguesEDU, Blogues Educativos no Portal das Escolas, foi lançado a 10 de março de 2011. Apresentava, então, cerca de uma dúzia de blogues cujos autores foram convidados a apresentarem as suas boas práticas na utilização de blogues como recurso e estratégia pedagógica.

Desde essa altura, registaram-se mais de 230 trabalhos revelando projetos de professores, alunos, escolas… integrando as TIC no trabalho da sala de aula.

Turmas do pré-escolar e do 1º ciclo revelam assim as suas atividades reforçando a ligação à comunidade, bibliotecas escolares mostram o trabalho de interdisciplinaridade e promoção da leitura que realizam, clubes de ciência, robótica, línguas ou fotografia, apresentam os trabalhos produzidos pelos alunos, etc, numa montra de boas práticas que vale a pena conhecer aqui.

As TIC nos currículos do ensino básico e secundário ou uma visão de rejeição do conceito de nativos digitais

Autores consagrados que se dedicam ao estudo da evolução das sociedades, determinam que vivemos numa sociedade de informação, onde astecnologias da informação e comunicação (TIC) são cada vez mais o “animal dominante”. De entre esses autores podemos referir Manuel Castells, Nicholas Negroponte, Seymour Papert, Pierre Levy, entre muitos outros.

 A sociedade hoje confunde-se com as TIC.

Prensky, em artigos publicados em 2001, cunhou o termo de “nativos digitais” e determinou que os humanos nascidos depois de 1983 assim se designariam, em oposição aos que já tinham nascido a essa data, a que apelidou de “emigrantes digitais”.

Não podemos dizer que não utilizamos recursos digitais nas nossas aulas com o argumento de que eles não existem, porque no site que vos proponho hoje pode ser que encontrem.
